The Board Meeting of HomeNet Sri Lanka - 28th September 2010

(21- 10 - 10) - Board meeting was chaired by Ms. Kala Peiris, chairperson of HomeNet Sri Lanka. During the meeting progress of HomeNet projects Inclusive Urban Policies (IUP), Advocacy for Changed (FNV) and due diligence progress was discussed.

In project IUP research outcomes were presented to the board members and their feedbacks were noted. Along with that new questionnaire developed for the research on Organizations working for Home Based Workers was approved by all the board members present at the occasion.

Progress of the Project FNV was presented to the board by the director of HomeNet Sri Lanka, Mr. Dilanthe Withanage. During last few months 5 distrcit level workshops were conducted which includes 2 in Colombo, 1 in Kalutara, Gamapaha, Matara and Puttalam.


District Level workshop in Puttalam, on National Policy Recommendations for Home Based Works

(18-10-10) - HomeNet Sri Lanka conducted a district level workshop in Puttalam on 30th September 2010. The workshop was focused on raising the awareness among organizations working for Home Based Workers regarding the need on "Implementation of National Policy for Home Based Workers in Sri Lanka."

The interactive workshop was focused on the ILO C 177 and Policy Recommendations for Home Based Workers. Chairperson of HomeNet Sri Lanka, Ms. Kala Peiris took the audience through the key areas and concepts in the policy recommendations while explaining them in detail to the gathered. 

Including the partner organizations of HomeNet Sri Lanka many of the well known Non Governmental and Community Based Organizations in puttalam district were present at the occasion.


One Day Interactive Dialogue on "Policy Recommendations and Clarification of Home Based Workers' Related Terms in Sri Lankan Context" 

(20- 08 -2010) HomeNet Sri Lanka arranged a one day interactive dialogue on "Policy Recommendations and clarification of Home Based Workers' related terms in Sri Lankan context". Various academics and professionals took part in this intellectual dialogue creating a multi stakeholder view on developed policy recommendations for Home Based Workers.

This is one of the important catalysts to the National Level workshop to be held at the latter part of the year. Read the full article

Leader of the Sri Lanka’s Communist Party, Hon. Minister DEW Gunasekara expresses his view to HomeNet Sri Lanka

(24 - 07 -2010) Yesterday, July 23rd HomeNet Sri Lanka met with Hon. Minister of Rehabilitation and Prisons DEW Gunasekara. He was one of the pioneers of the labor force movement in Sri Lanka, one of the few who fought against workers rights for very long time period.

Director of HomeNet Sri Lanka, Dilanthe withanage handed over the policy recommendations to the minster and explained how the background was set to such recommendations for informal workers of type Home Based.
